Huang Zheng-yao
The series creation of “puzzle border” were inspired by a drawing painted in light of the residue of dried coffee stains which the creator accidently split (works: puzzle border (I)). After that, the creator has kept seeking all kinds of possibility and breakthrough in patterns and themes of the paintings via this similar creating approach, from abstract to concrete images, to gradually develop a unique painting style. Therefore, before final outcome of the painting being done, usually no pre-planned image can be anticipated, and the image develops through random spraying and splashing till the end. Then, the connotation of the image is formed via undefined-shaped figure after completion of the painting, or even, without completion of the painting intentionally. The painting process is like passing through an endless labyrinth, once entering it, it’s hard to find a way out; and the view along the labyrinth may be sometimes a landscape, sometimes the process of biological evolution, or even shapes of malformation animals, which gradually forms a weird kingdom, as the imaginary world of “Classic of Mountains and Seas”, full of various preposterous imaginations.
